Police XI Survive The Chop With GU Draw

The match was ordered for a replay after the last encounter, played two weeks ago could not finish as GU did not have the required number of players on the field.
Coming into the weekend’s clash, the Jungle Kings sat on the 12th spot with 34 points, just three points away from the relegation position. They needed a point from the match to ensure their stay in the top league. On the other hand, Moyagoleele who have troubles of their own, once again arrived at the venue late with a 14-man squad and had only two outfield players on the bench. The team fielded a number of their fringe players.
They did not have their usual warm up drills. On the field, the first half did not produce any spark but The Reds looked a better side while Police sat back for most of the half. GU were dealt a blow when Bobby Ntshegisang limped off with an injury and was replaced by 18-year-old Tshiamo Small. The youngster nearly gave GU the lead in the 37th minute, but his header went over the bar. With three minutes to the half time break, Thatayaone Kgamanyane intercepted a back pass from Gorata Keorapetse but was denied by the goalkeeper on a one-on-one situation. The attacker once again tried from the corner kick but his header went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands as the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
GU looked to put the coach’s instructions into action early in the second half. In the first minute, Kgamanyane received a cheeky pass from Maome inside the box, he beat the defender but shot wide. On the 51st minute, Mpho Kgomo pulled a great save from the keeper with a header inside the box as Police started to put numbers on the attack. Two minutes later from a corner, Godwin Bonsu cleared on the line after the keeper showed butterfly fingers in what looked like a harmless cross by Maome.
In the 69th minute, Kgamanyane was once again released by Maome but could only hit the keeper with his attempt. With 10 minutes to time, Katlego Masole aimed his free kick to the top corner but Ookeditse Semelamela showed good reflexes and parried for yet another corner as the Jungle Kings kept it tight at the back to ensure that they are home and dry.
“I am not impressed with the boys’ performance looking at that, GU have been playing for past two weeks, they did not have a warm up. So the attitude of our players really killed us today. It was not their business to be caught on the troubles at GU. We were supposed to go out there and beat these guys,” Police coach, Isaiah Mogwadi said after the game.
