Old Naledi Resident Survives Train Accident

The incident occurred yesterday around 6:30am when the victim was allegedly walking to work and was crossing the railway line tracks.

Naledi police said they received a report from a passerby who saw the man lying next to the tracks.

The assistant station commander, assistant Superintendent Mosireletsi Phologo confirmed the incident to The Monitor.

Phologo however could not shed more light on the accident, as he said the matter was still fresh and his office was still investigating.

“After receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene and on arrival they found the victim had already been taken to Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) by Med Rescue ambulance.

He is currently recuperating at the hospital even though he sustained a fracture,” said Phologo.

He said that at the moment they did not know what exactly transpired as they were yet to interview the resident of Old Naledi location.

“We are not sure if the victim was hit by a train, or he is the one who knocked himself against the train, hence ongoing investigations.

The man who identified the victim said he suspect he might have miscalculated the speed of the train and tried to run fast across the tracks before the train could pass, but got unlucky,” Phologo said.

He appealed to members of the public to exercise caution at all times when crossing the railway line and avoid to underestimate the speed of the train to avoid unnecessary fatal accidents.
