After the game GU coach, Rudolfo Zapata said he will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The teams came into the game with the players from camps reportedly still owed last month’s salaries. Chiefs missed a couple of key players including skipper Lesego Galenamotlhale, the team’s top goalscorer Jerome Ramatlhakwana and keeper Noah Maposa.

Kenalemang Neo got his debut as he faced his former club with Kopano Kgamanyane also getting a rare start. Chiefs’ Tendai Nyamadzawo had the first real chance at goal, but he failed to connect well with Katlego Koobake’s cross as he skied his effort. Ten minutes later, Jeffery Sekapite broke with pace from Thabiso Khunwane’s pass.

The striker outpaced his markers but missed the post by a whisker with a chip shot. Nyamadzawo broke the deadlock with two minutes to the break. The striker won the ball from Alphonse Modisaotsile in front of the box and found the top of the net from outside the box. Chiefs took a one goal lead in to the break.

GU came into the second half looking a better side. Mpolokang skied his effort after a good move by the team. Moyagoleele eventually levelled the matters on the hour mark.

Tumisang Orebonye headed home Jackson Lesole’s cross. On the 82nd minute, Orebonye beat Thato Kebue but his short went off the post. Orebonye nearly gave the Reds the maximum points in referee’s time but his header hit the post.

“I’m working step by step until the end. From them I will be going to do player and coach development in the USA. I think my job is going to be done to put the GU in the Top 8.

I wish all the GU supporters all the best,” Zapata said after the game. He also praised his charges for a good performance. His counter part, Bongani Mafu said his players lacked the physical aspect of the game however, was happy with a point.
