Sharps now need just a point in the last two games to gain their first ever promotion to the Premier League.

Their job was even made easier by the fact that Uniao Flamengo Santos who are the closest title rivals lost 3-2 to Notwane on Saturday. Sharps’ match against Matebejane produced a tough battle in the first half, but with relatively low goal scoring chances.

However, they had an upper hand and created at least two chances. Moemedi Moatlhaping had a chance to shoot in the middle of the first half but his effort went wide.

Langa Mabuli also had an opportunity but his goal was ruled off side. Matebejane had only one chance in the first half but appeared to be the best of the match in that half. Sharps’ defence was caught napping and Matebejane’s Tlotlo Pelokgosi found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but carelessly shot wide. They had almost the same chances twice in the second half but once again squandered them. Sharps, however picked up their game in the middle of the second half but found Matebejane goalkeeper Ignatius Tebagano in fine form.

He denied Moatlhaping twice from good headers.

Speaking to the media after the match, Sharps coach, Pio Paul said they struggled in the first half but cannot complain. He said they picked up in the second half but were denied by the Matebejane goalkeeper with his excellent saves. “We just need a point and maybe it is a good thing that we may be able to celebrate our promotion at our home ground because we host the next match,” he said.

Matebejane coach, Onkemetse Masena said it was an emotional game for him since he studied coaching with Paul. He said they wanted nothing less than a draw in the match to secure their status in the First Division.
