BCP parliamentary hopefuls in F/town-West to contest for council seats

BCP Francistown region secretary Dickson Dingalo confirmed the development.
“We are waiting for official communication from the party on the subject. However, I can assure you that the writ will be re-opened. We want those who had wanted to contest the parliamentary primaries to be given an opportunity to apply to contest the council primaries if at all they want to.
“Other party members will also be eligible to challenge the primaries in the constituency,” he said.
Vain Mamela and Maria Kusasa had expressed interest to contest parliamentary primaries in the Francistown West constituency but the BCP later traded the constituency with the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).
Dingalo added that BCP members in the Francistown West constituency have since met and resolved to approve the decision of the party executive to give the constituency to the BMD.
BCP members in the constituency initially showed disapproval of the party executive’s decision to give the constituency to their Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) partners, the BMD.
They disapproved the decisions because they ‘were not thoroughly consulted.
While Kusasa would not be reached for comment Mamela said that he is not aware that the party will re-open the election writ in Francistown West. He would also not confirm or deny if he will contest the council primaries.
“I think it is still early to make a determination with regards to my political future,” he said.
