Safety Foundation to launch Project 1000

The foundation’s key areas of work are to raise awareness on areas of safety, become a one stop shop for safety solution and also provide safety clothing for any particular situation and emergencies. The Project 1000 campaign is aimed at training at least 1000 drivers with safe driving skills.

The organisation will also provide teaching classes for first aid as well as fire fighting skills.

According the foundation’s assistant media mediator, Mogametsi Nthai, participants will be awarded a certificate at the end of the training, which will be renewed after two years. “The purpose behind this motive, is to ensure drivers return to better their driving skills and also learn and acquire new skills that may have surfaced during those two years,” she said. 

The first class is expected to have at least 60 people and training is absolutely. The organisation has joined hands with several driving school associations, as that is their main target group. However, training and registration is not only limited to people in driving school, but stands open to the public provided they have a valid driver’s license.

 But as Nthai noted, the greatest challenge now is sponsorship, saying financial backing will help getting the launch and program effective.
