DJ Colastraw optimistic of Toropo ya Muka success

The fourth edition of the festival will be held this weekend at Botho University campus, a venue considered relatively safe and secure. Last year’s event that was staged at the Francistown Sports Complex was a notable success but was punctuated with some security lapses.
“Just like we have said before, security for the event is our priority. We had meetings with the police and the security people we have engaged for the event. The security strategy has been finalised and I am confident that the event will go on smoothly,” he said.
During an earlier press conference Colastraw said that they would rope in 200 security officers for the event which it is anticipated to attract nearly 10, 000 people. Last year the festival was attended by over 4, 000 people.
“We have also roped in a team from MRI who will provide first aid assistance in relation to accidents that may occur at the event.
They will be allocated a space to operate at,” he said adding that all the artists who have been invited to participate at the festival have confirmed their availability.
Tickets for the event are going at P100, while a ticket and a ‘Toropo ya Muka’ branded t-shirt trades at P200. Those who buy t-shirts alone will have to part ways with P120.
The festival will feature 100% local artists and DJs, amongst them Amantle Brown and Latimmy. Over 60 (combined) upcoming artists and DJs are scheduled to perform at the festival.
Latimmy has become a familiar face at the festival. Tickets, merchandise sales and other activities surrounding the events are carried out at Galo Mall. Activations for the event have also been taking place in Gaborone. There will also be a five-aside tournament and a marathon.
“Registration for the marathon is still very low. We urge more people to register. Even when many people do not register the marathon will still continue and the prize money will not change,” he said.
The winner of the marathon will get prize money of P 10,000. Toropo ya Muka is probably the biggest music festival in the northern part of the country.
