GetBucks donates P240K worth of uniforms

Lapologang is rated in the top five best government primary schools with a 95% pass rate from last year’s PSLE results.

GetBucks, a micro-finance company adopted the Phikwe School for a period of three years.

The partnership unveiling that was held at the school premises last week was marked with a P240, 000 worth of school uniform donation. The items were inclusive of 464 tracksuits, 209 pairs of school shoes and 94 school jerseys. The unveiling ceremony was combined with a mammoth celebration of the Standard 7 class of 2017 that attained the highest marks in the history of the school. The Competition Authority rewarded the former Standard 7 pupils with excellence certificates. 

Parents, teachers, support staff and residents of the former copper and nickel-mining town had descended upon the school en-masse to witness the occasion.

When announcing the partnership, GetBucks managing director Martin De Kok said his company intended to provide learning resources and comfort for the pupils of Lapologang and the school to ensure the results propel upwardly.

De Kok said he was impressed with the efforts of the school despite working under adversities brought by the closure of a mine that was the spine of the town.

“I hope our efforts will go a long way in uplifting the entire community of Selebi- Phikwe,” he said.

“Empowering the community begins with the children, hence we saw it appropriate that we share our resources with the Lapologang Primary School and we trust the resources will go a long way and hopefully positively affect the community,” he said.

Botswana Teachers Union secretary general, Agang Gabana welcomed the sponsorship on behalf of the school and his union pledged a P2, 500 to celebrate the school staff.

“We are grateful to GetBucks. We appreciate the support and we are happy that you are planting your profits into a good cause. It will encourage the students and the staff to keep improving their performance,” he said.

GetBucks is also parent to Kubung Primary School outside Thamaga. The village was in the recent past besieged by unruly delinquents that terrorised the villagers.
