Even though the events are not related, it will be the first time ever the people of Maun experience the beauty of spinning in their own ground at the Maun Stadium parking space on April 16.

Rookie club Emergency Assist (EA) Motor Club in collaboration with SpinCity Motor Events Management will host the event. EA will be hosting their first club event under the regulations of Botswana Motor Sport (BMS) General Competition Rules and Standing Supplementary Regulations.

Briefing the media yesterday, the chairperson of EA Simon Modisaeman said they took the event to Maun to reach out to areas where spinning does not exist. “We want to encourage sport tourism because Maun is a tourist destination,” he said.

He said the event would be sponsored by Emergency Assist.

“The event will include four local and three South African spinners. We should be able to compete in the region and allow skills transfer,” he said. Botswana will be represented by Sheriff, Thuso of BW Spin Masters, Blak of Lexus fame and King Joe from team Graveyard. Internationally there is VeeJaro who last came to Botswana in 2011, Sparky of South Side Crew, making his debut appearance in Botswana as well as Mr Sy aka Polokwane’s Finest.

“This being the inaugural event, EA Motor Club looks at developing the sport outside Gaborone, starting with Maun as we believe that with time, Motorsport events like these, have the potential to grow to the extent that they bring revenue and tourism to the country,” he highlighted.

Modisaeman said car spinning is a huge crowd puller. “With events such as Spincity, we believe this will be a breakthrough to expose even more Batswana to the sport of Motorsport outside Gaborone,” he said.

The event will run from 10am to 6pm. Spin City Motor Events is affiliated to the Botswana Motor Sport Association and they have been hosting events in Gaborone for over four years now. Their events have become immensely popular with growing attendance at each event as well as increased participation from our local spinners and from other African countries.

Modisaeman said the weekend in Ngami would start off with a convoy on Thursday of local and international spinners hitting the 900km route from Gaborone to Maun.

Enroute to Maun stopovers will be made to give out flyers as well as create hype for the event.
