It seems the new constitution might not see the light of the day as allegations are rife that somebody took it to the Registrar without the consent of the affiliates.

BAA public relations officer, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the new committee has been given a mandate to review the document.

He said the constitution was submitted to the Registrar where it was stamped and approved before the affiliates had a chance to discuss and adopt the document.

There were fears that the BAA had violated the constitution after electing into committee some positions, which are omitted in the document.

The new BAA constitution states in Section 2.41 that the association should have a president, vice president-sports development, vice president-sports administration, vice president-finance and administration and a legal advisor.

The secretary general of the association shall be the chief executive officer and be a full time employee of the association.

“The new constitution does not cater for other positions such as public relations officer and treasurer. It would mean the elections that were held over the weekend are null and void under it.

But we reached an agreement that for now the documents will be reviewed and after that we can call the membership for a meeting to discuss it,” Ramatshaba said.

He said the existing positions in the new constitution are going to be reviewed seeing their importance in the development of athletics in the country.

“We are in the transition period and as the executive committee we must come up with a plan on how we can use the new constitution.

At the moment we are following the existing structure,” Ramatshaba said
