Masuku, who is making his debut in the committee, however said he is willing to work with the new faces. He said most of the members were people who were working with the former president, Gaolathe Modongo.

He said he had a special team of his own, most of them professionals such accountants, a psychologist, and a public relations officer with international experience.

“I cannot doubt people before working with them. I am looking forward to working with them if they are willing to work with me more so that our goals are similar, which is to see the sport succeed,” he said.

Masuku told Mmegi Sport yesterday that he is determined to source funds from different companies for a sport hard hit by financial challenges.

Lack of finance saw one fencer sponsor herself for a tournament in South Africa.

“The federation needs more athletes to excel internationally because we need to be ranked,” he said.

“We would then be able to qualify for tournaments such as the Olympics. The national team needs to be assisted for us to achieve this.”

He urged clubs to use the right equipment for training, pledging to assist them. Clubs were encouraged to source sponsorship and not always rely on the association.

Masuku said he will help the clubs grow.

“It seems like I will be in charge for four years even though it was not clear during the AGM, but the former president has said it is four years. It was two years before Modongo changed it to four years,” Masuku said.

He said the issue will be clear after they refer to the constitution.
