Kgalagadi Resources Development Company, trading as Solar Power Botswana, believes that once a person has converted their geyser into solar powered-water heater, they will have a peace of mind knowing that they will nearly always have hot water.

It is for this reason that the solar energy firm, focused on tapping into the country’s abundant solar energy resource, is encouraging people to adopt the usage of solar water heating system.

Kabo Makutu, sales and marketing manager of Solar Power Botswana, indicated that the company has developed a conversion system that converts electric boiler geysers into solar-powered water heaters.

“We have an abundance of good quality sunshine throughout most of the year and we must harvest this God-given blessing everyday,” he said. He also noted that the freely available source of thermal energy is ideally suited to create hot water for storage and use and is fully renewable and free.

Makutu added that using solar geysers is extremely green and efficient as it also reduces the reliance on fossil fuels and electricity, directly reducing carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to global warming.

“To estimate how much energy your electric geyser or boiler uses per day, try using our calculator.

One relatively cost-effective way of heating water is to convert your existing geyser to a direct solar water heating system using one of our solar thermal collector water heating,” he stressed.

According to Makutu, the solar energy is captured either in the form of solar thermal or solar photovoltaic electrical and stored and used as needed.

He said the conversion system is a smart and economical way to convert an existing electric geyser into solar powered, adding that the conversion is smooth without disturbing the geyser’s plumbing or electrical set up.

“You only see an elegant solar power panel on your roof.

This is the most economical way to have solar powered water heating at drastically less cost and less need for roof-top maintenance,” Makutu said.
