Mandla Masuku is the new president after ousting Gaolathe Modongo who had served for two years.
Modongo was seeking another term after he was to take charge in 2015 and believed he had taken fencing to new levels. But clubs had other ideas and inserted Masuku. Maatla Basha is the new vice president with five votes beating his opponent Hlubi Gilika who got three votes. Basha previously served as technical director.
He said he has a long history with fencing and is looking forward to working hand in hand with other board members especially his president. Thato Gleeson and Letlhogonolo Ramosesane retained their positions as public relations officer and secretary general respectively.
During his campaign, Gleeson promised to keep good relations with the media and the federation.
Ramosesane said she wants to see fencing progress and her love for the sport was the reason why she stood.
Gosego Nkwe was elected the treasurer while Sam Chape won the technical director post with four votes out of seven.
Outgoing president, Modongo said lack of finance hindered progress in fencing. Modongo said they had three officials who were supposed to be trained as referees, but failed to travel for a course outside the country.
He said that was the biggest opportunity since they hire officials from South Africa for every competition, which is costly.
In the financial report, it was revealed that the federation relied on funds from different sources which include president and the committee. In the last financial year, the federation received P150,000 from the Botswana National Sport Commission and P137,000 was used.
