KDC Chairperson Decries Constituency Projects Delays

Kweneng District Council (KDC) was allocated P80 million to undertake constituency projects throughout the district, with each constituency (of the eight) in the district getting P10 million.

“As at the end of April 2018, expenditure stood at P17,9 million with six projects completed. Admittedly, the delay in delivery of these projects is worrisome. While we acknowledge that procurement for these projects took long, supply of construction materials, especially bricks also took a long time.

We also have to appreciate that when funds were disbursed there was need to prepare the already meagre resources for these projects as no additional staffing and fleet came with these package of projects,” Sibisibi said.

He said there was need to put in place a robust work plan for effective implementation of these projects. The KDC chairperson said this therefore calls for concerted efforts to ensure that these projects are effectively implemented.

For the 2018/2019 constituency projects, Sibisibi said P80 million has been approved and 50% of the funds have been requested for commencement of the programme. He said preparations are on going in the sub districts to kick start the projects.

For destitute housing KDC will construct 80 houses for people living with disability through the district. “Consultations are ongoing to identify beneficiaries to be provided with housing.

In addition council will also construct 37 houses for people living with disability in rural area settlements during this financial year,” he said.

On issues of road infrastructure maintenance, he admitted that there are still challenges of infrastructure maintenance in the district, especially road network which has poor riding quality.

“In an effort to address this condition ,Kweneng District Council has just recently acquired one new grader, two backhoe loaders and one 10 cubic tipper truck through the road levy funding.

We are expecting delivery of additional two 10 cubic tipper and two backhoe loaders. This last batch of plant is bought through the 2018/19 fuel levy allocation,” he said.
