Letlhakane brothers held for murder, defilement

The two assailants and the victim had a misunderstanding, leading to a quarrel. They brothers allegedly dragged the victim outside the shebeen compound where they fought and stabbed him on the abdominal and left his intestines exposed.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Letlhakane Primary Hospital and was admitted. He went into a coma for five days and passed away on Saturday.

The assailants fled the scene of crime and had been on the run but have since been arrested. They are set to appear before the Letlhakane Magistrate tomorrow (Wednesday).

Letlhakane police station commander superintendent Michael Maphephu said the younger brother is linked to defilement case that occurred while he was on the run.

It is alleged that the 24-year-old had on different instances been proposing to a 14-year-old girl of the same ward as his, but the girl constantly turned the proposal down.

On June 2, while the girl was with her friends around 8pm near her homestead at Metsiaela ward the young man showed up and allegedly took her away. He then allegedly raped her and dumped her. The girl’s parents later reported the matter to the police.

“Our investigations on the matter are at advanced stage and the two brothers will appear before the (Letlhakane) magistrate tomorrow (Wednesday),” Mpahephu said, also pointing out the links in the defilement matter.

“We are also investigating the defilement that happened recently and one of the two brothers, the younger one is a prime suspect in the matter,” he said.
