Alleged Kanye police killers' trial in August

Gaborone High Court Judge, Michael Mothobi yesterday postponed the matter to allow the accused persons to prepare their plea and defence for trial. 

The accused, Evans Mhiwatiwa, 46, Mayibongwe Moyo both from Zimbabwe, and Botswana nationals Gaofenngwe Seitiso, 37, and 31-year-old Thuso Tankomane are accused of robbing cash loan business in Kanye and in the process killing a police officer during a shoot out. 

The state alleges that the accused who were six on that fateful day of January 2015, robbed a business, Rosherville Investment Cash Loans, of P87 064 and Toyota Allex valued at P50 000 in Kanye.

Following the alleged robbery, the accused persons were involved in a shoot-out with police who tailed them to Makgodumo Dam resulting in one police officer and one suspect being shot. 

The four together with one suspect who is still at large are now accused of killing police officer Focus Isaiah. 

They are facing five counts including armed robbery, murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They all have legal representation. 

The case has been scheduled for August 6, 2018.
