One of the event coordinators Kabelo Matebekwane told Showbiz that the event that was expected to take place in this month was postponed due to circumstances beyond their control.

“We had booked to host the competition at the Lady Khama Community but unfortunately we had to postpone the event because the hall is being renovated.

We have therefore decided to cancel the registration fee as a way of apologising to our clients for the inconvenience caused,” he said.

Matebekwane explained that they came up with the dance competition concept because they want to give young people an opportunity to showcase their dancing skills.

He said UDB will also keep the youth busy and keep them off the streets. He also explained that the competition intends to give upcoming dancing crews a mileage in the local entertainment industry.

“We have a large audience. Our competition accommodates a variety of dances including the new dances such as Sbujwa, Skhothane and Sjaba, which have gained a lot of popularity amongst young people.

These new dances have influenced a lot of people. People love them,” he said.

Young people aged between 13 to 25 are allowed to enter the competition. Matebekwane said groups of people not less than two and not more than 10 will be allowed to register.

He explained that due to lack of sponsorship, part of their prize money will be taken from entrance fee.

This competition has also been held in Gaborone and Mahalapye.

The winners will walk away P3, 000 richer while the second and third runner-ups will walk away with P1,000 and P500 irrespectively.
