The host of the 2026 World Cup would be announced in Russia on Wednesday, on the eve of this year’s tournament kick-off.

FIFA’s 209 associations will vote through a secret ballot, to decide the hosts of the 2026 World Cup.

Letshwiti will travel to Russia and cast his vote but as of yesterday, he had not made up his mind on which bid to pick.

The BFA president will be accompanied by the chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo and national executive committee member, Masego Nchingane.

“I have not decided, I am still considering the two. I take time to make my decisions. I have to consult extensively,” Letshwiti said yesterday.

Morocco is seen as underdogs, with the joint bid expected to sail through. Initial reports indicate that the three countries’ bid had received favourable recommendations from the inspecting team. Morocco officials were recently in Botswana to present their bid book to BFA, while the Canada, Mexico and US bid was presented to a COSAFA executive committee meeting, which Letshwiti attended.

If Morocco fails to win, as expected, it would be third time unlucky, after trying in 2006, 2010 and 2018.

Zimbabwe made a u-turn this week when it decided against supporting the Moroccan bid, and instead, will now back the joint bid.

Liberia has also done the same and will go with the North American bid.
