Updating Higher Education Providers on the achievements so far, the BQA acting Director Quality Assurance, Mr Phenyo Molefe said   eight public institutions and 11 private institutions had applied, with 12 registered so far, including one public provider

Mr Molefe explained that naturally public institutions would struggle with the initial process of registration and accreditation as this is the first time they are being required to apply for accreditation while the private institutions had been subjected to accreditation since the days of the now defunct BOTA and TEC bodies. He was optimistic that these providers have been capacitated and should submitted applications in time to beat the deadline.

He reminded the stakeholders that there are about six months away from the transition period deadline and encouraged those still lagging behind to apply for accreditation well ahead of the deadline. According to the BQA transition period dates for registration and accreditation for TVET and Higher Education providers, including consultancy and workplace is December 2, 2018, while the transition period for registration of qualifications is December 2, 2019, and the transition period for their learning programme is December 2, 2020.

For General education, the transition period for registration and accreditation of schools is December 2, 2020.  The transition period for the registration of qualification for General education is December 2, 2021, while the transition period for their learning programme is December 2, 2022.

Mrs Jobe, acting CEO, said BQA has begun to reap the fruit of engaging international experts in learning programmers’ accreditation; “We are now seeing the value of doing that, and this (initiative) was suggested by yourselves, the ETPs”.

Earlier in his welcome remarks the chairperson of BQA Quality Assurance Committee, Mr Tebogo Rapitsenyane advised local institutions to collaborate with international institutions to ensure that our education and training system is internationally competitive. He implored the ETPs to promote corporate governance to build reputation of the system. He encouraged provider to embrace ICT and move with the times.
