The symposium, which is powered by technical experts, policy-makers in global health, primary health care specialists, logistics and supply chain as well as investment and trade persons, seeks to develop, facilitate and empower critical thinkers, leaders and researchers for building a resilient and responsive health system that also recognises the global health context in which Botswana exists.  It will be facilitated by a renowned public health expert, Professor Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III from Liverpool University in China.

The Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Biggie Butale will perform the official opening of the event which comes at a time when Botswana, like the rest of the world faces daunting health challenges. Leaders in the Health industry are expected to deliberate on critical issues and ignite discussions that will help Botswana to reset priorities in the health sector to address these challenges.

IDM Botswana country director, Dr Onalenna Seitio–Kgokgwe explained that IDM and Boitekanelo College “are centres of excellence in the field of public health and health education promotion.  “The two institutions therefore are keen to combine forces and bring together industry experts and thought-leaders to re-sensitise the public about critical issues on global health.  “We are excited about this partnership with Boitekanelo and hope it will go a long way in promoting the spirit of collaboration as we tackle real life situations in our country”.

For his part, founder and managing director of Boitekanelo College, Dr Tiro Mampane said: “The role of individuals, communities and the population at large in promoting health and wellness is paramount for revitalisation of primary health care in Botswana.  “We believe this initiative will challenge our faculties to focus more on research to provide solutions that will address issues affecting our health-care system”.
