South Africans, Dumisani Mbebe well known as Dumisani Shabane in SABC’s Generations drama, Roxanne Kalie who has been in a number of TV commercials and Motswana model-cum- actor Stu Machinya who is based in Asia will facilitate the workshop. The workshop is a brainchild of Machinya.

“This is a workshop that has been created to help those who aspire to get into the industry by grooming them, giving them lessons on what it takes to be a model/actor; how to prepare for castings and auditions; to teach them how the industry works and how one can get started, keep focused and become successful,” said the 29-year-old Machinya.

She noted that herself, Mbebe and Kalie will focus on giving guidance in different aspects regarding the entertainment industry ranging from casting, branding, etiquette, social media and getting started as an artist.

Machinya noted that she had to select Mbebe to be one of the facilitators due to his vast work experience as an actor and producer. She said Mbebe also has good experience in youth development in film. “Through his coaching and mentoring I have been able to improve my work skills and a push in the right direction.”

As for Kalie she noted that the she carries 14 years experience in the creative industry as she has featured in different TV commercials. Roxanne has mastered her craft. Through trials and tribulations she is now a commercial magnet; she knows how to book a job”.

Machinya’s portfolio reads that she worked on different projects such as Airtel Nigeria commercial, featured lead role in Martini commercial (Singapore and Nigeria), Foschini group sportswear and Standard Bank commercial.

“There is a fast growing demand for models and actors in Botswana, but there is also a high unemployment rate and then again people don’t have the right training when it comes to auditioning and casting for these jobs or type of work and thus this workshop wants to highlight all these and equip people with such skills,” she added.

During the workshop the trio will scout for an outstanding individual that will be signed to Contact Model Management based in Cape Town on a one-year contract.

“I decided to bring the workshop to Botswana because I know how tough this industry is. I know how difficult it is to get into it more so that if you do not have the right knowledge about it you can either be led astray or get frustrated”.

The local industry has a large number of models and actors who have previously decried stating that their careers are not being recognised.
