BMS Affiliates Face Deregistration

Speaking at the elective special general meeting on Saturday, Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) sports development director-technical, Bobby Gaseitsiwe said a majority of the BMS affiliated clubs have failed to submit their annual returns to the Registrar and could face deregistration.
“There are only four clubs that have complied. The other could face deregistration, I have pleaded with the Registrar and I told them we will be having a meeting today and we will elect a committee that will lead motorsport,” Gaseitsiwe said. The BMS has been without an executive committee since the beginning of the year after the interim committee led by John Carr-Hartley’s 12-month period elapsed in December. At the meeting, it was revealed that from the clubs affiliated, only five of 14 have paid their affiliation fee. Clubs, however, argued that they saw no point of subscribing to the BMS since it did not have an executive committee.
The BNSC in 2016 dissolved the then BMS executive committee and ran the affairs of the association. The committee was dissolved for misuse of office. At the gathering, former president, Simon Modisaeman of Emergency Assist argued that the election should not go through as he said the meeting was unconstitutional. “This meeting on its own is unconstitutional. We are surprised as who has called the meeting. The BNSC keeps interfering in BMS issues; they should let the BMS solve their problems on their own,” he said.
On his part, Gaborone Motor Club president, Vincent Crosbie admitted that there are issues within the association, but argued that the election should go through. “We are not here for politics. There are issues yes, but with all this talk we are just wasting time. We should elect a committee that will take us forward. We should let bygones be bygones and move forward,” he said.
Biker, Lebogang Mosope was elected the new president while Crosbie will serve as the vice president. Jackie Meyer was elected into the secretary general role with Tshelang Kefitlhile appointed the treasurer. Ivorene Wheeler was elected grading secretary, Carr-Hartley returned to the committee, together with Joe Khengere, Pilatwe Gasemodimo, Kagiso Modibedi and Rose Marmalokous filling the additional members’ roles.
