The Right Reverend Metlhayotlhe Beleme said that giving back to the community remains the church’s socio economic component. Beleme, who is also the Bishop of Anglican diocese of Botswana, said while the church would continue to improve the lives of Batswana, it would not seek publicity but to motivate strives to end abject poverty.

“As we hand over the house to Ms Qhuale and family, let us remind ourselves that we are doing this to praise the love of God,” Beleme said. He said the house dedication will overtime motivate Qhuale family to turn to God, and they would praise him for the gift rendered by the church.

When earlier giving the background of project, BCC General Secretary, Rev Mosweu Simane, said the idea to build a house for Qhuale family was conceived in 2012.

He said it was during the BCC conference held in Kang that they identified the Qhuale family, who are Basarwa.

“Another driving factor was that the family had a large number of children under the age of seven years, hence they were vulnerable to natural effects such as harsh winters and extremely hot weather conditions of the Kgalagadi.

“Our youth forum spearheaded the initiative and by then, we had intended to construct the house in 3 days though it took us more than 4 years to complete,” Simane shared.

Simane also appreciated the assistance they received from the Kgalagadi District Council, social welfare department.
