Modville Fitness Club, chairperson, Gavin Makgatlhe told patrons during their annual charity sponsored walk that was held at Modipane on Saturday. The 20km walk that attracted a number of people, especially women, was held under the theme, ‘Fitness and compassion: Live it’.

He said people should know that their health could be affected by the lifestyle choices they make, but exercising could transform their health.

Makgatlhe said the pressures of home and family life can make it feel like there’s little time to exercise, but people should know that aside from weight loss, there is a lot to gain from exercise and it can make a huge difference in staying healthy.

“Exercise means a healthier heart because it reduces several cardiovascular risks, including high blood pressure and heart diseases. Most people lost their lives, due to lifestyle related diseases, but if people could make exercise a part of their lives it would contribute a lot to living a healthy life,” he said.

He went on to encourage people to consider eating healthy foods stating that most people suffer lifestyle diseases because of the choice of the food they eat. He stated that as a fitness club they teach their members to live a healthy life and eat healthy food. “We have gathered here today to sensitise the community on the importance of regular training and eating healthy.

People across all age groups should exercise at least 30 minutes every day to stay in good physical and mental health. Exercise also plays a vital role for the heart as it strengthens it,” he said.

He encouraged people to take more responsibility for their health and wellbeing because people who are physically active reduce their risk of developing major chronic diseases that have of late been reported to hit the country hard.

Officiating at the event, Uyapo Ndadi shared the same sentiments that physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits most importantly regular activity can improve one’s quality of life.He said that a healthy mind is a productive one urging members of the public to consider taking physical training and regular excise as part of their lives.
