Court judgement halts Letlhakane Senior School renovations

The Minister of Basic Education, Bagalatia Arone said the award for the tender had been queried by one of the bidders and the matter is currently at the High Court.

Arone was answering a question posed by Boteti East Member of Parliament, Sethomo Lelatisitswe, who wanted the minister to update the house on the progress made on maintenance works at Motsumi Junior and Letlhakane Senior Secondary Schools.

“Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development has evaluated the bids for the works tender for renovations and maintenance of Letlhakane Senior Secondary School.  The adjudication committee has adjudicated on the bids and the lowest compliant was to be offered after cooling off on March 23, 2018. However, the bidder has not been offered or notified,” he said.

The minister said Motsumi JSS has full cyclic maintenance in the financial year 2012-2013 and maintenance plans are due again in the 2019-2020 financial year.

He said the scope of the cyclic maintenance project will include but are not limited to academic sections such as classrooms, science labs and school fence along with staff housing, which is estimated at P9,000,000.

The school will be maintained in the third phase of the Economic Stimulus Package of 2019-2020.

Arone said the school has recently received minor maintenance works amounting to P174,000 and the project is on a defect liability period.

He said funds for emergency works amounting to P500,000 have been disbursed to the school to attend to emerging needs.
