Owner Counts Losses After Fire Razes Hotel

The police say they received a report around 9am after the lodge staff spotted the blaze on the roof of the building.
Detective constable, Innocent Aron of Thamaga police said when they arrived at the scene they found that the fire had already been put under control by six fire fighters, the owner and some staff members.
“We got a report that there is fire at Iketlo Lodge around 9am, although we are told that the fire was spotted around 7am.
We don’t know what caused the fire at the moment, but we are investigating,” said Aron. The police officer said fortunately no casualties were recorded, as there were no occupants at the time the fire broke out. Owner, Armstrong Sekwena told The Monitor that he arrived at the facility around 8am, but the fire was noticed around 7am.
He said that they do not know what caused the fire, which took them almost five hours to control because the facility has a thatched roofing The visibly shocked and stressed Sekwena said the damage in the six bedrooms is extensive.
“The other room was used as a storeroom and we had about 210 new beds.
We just recovered 50 while other things such as new television sets were burnt. We were on course to refurbish the facility and we had already bought the material. It’s all gone now, he said.
“The police are still investigating, although it is too early to say, the losses could well be over P2 million,” he added.
