BOTESSA president, Herbert Letsebe said the sponsorship was the first of its kind for the association, admitting it is never easy to strike such deals.

“When we started this project, we were not sure how convincing our proposal was but we submitted it,” he said.

Letsebe said it took them two years before they enquired about their proposal from FNB. He said they were invited to make a formal presentation in November.

“The sponsorship will go a long way in assisting us to nurture talent that would eventually represent the country in international competitions,” Letsebe said.

FNB chief executive officer (CEO), Steven Bogatsu said they believe in nurturing talent and supporting the youth.

“We are passionate about the development of the youth. We believe that supporting them at grassroots level would provide the athletes with the platform to fully utilize their skills and propel them to national and international stage,” he said.

The Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Philip Makgalemele said the sponsorship opens opportunities for everyone to be able to participate in sport and reach their potential.

“Commitments such as this are needed to achieve our goals in making our country a truly great sporting nation of which the entire continent can be proud of,” Makgalemele said.

He said the government is committed to developing sport and always encourages the private sector to come on board and assist. Makgalemele said the sponsorship is a benchmark for other institutions and their involvement and investment in sport.
