GCC To Settle Waste Collection Problem By July

She said they are expecting to be allocated resources to speed up the process.  'Ministry of Local Government has allocated GCC P12m for four refuse compactors, tipper trucks and two front end loaders and delivery of the vehicles and equipment is expected in July 2010,' she said. 

The council has also been provided with P33m for the 2010/2011 financial year, while P3m has also been provided for outsourcing tenders.In another strategy to end the problem, the council has negotiated with Kweneng council to extend operation hours for Gamodubu landfill from 6pm to 10pm so that waste collected in the evening can be disposed of as well as to increase the number of trips to the landfill. 

'However these preparations are ongoing,' she said. However, the council will withdraw from collecting garbage from commercial and industrial establishments and collect only household dirt.  'We have been collecting for them at no cost but we will now charge them full cost as per the provision of the waste management act,' she said.
