Rollers Women Side Conquer GU

Popa won the cup and P20,000 while GU were consoled with P10,000.

GU were the better team in the opening exchanges, but the Blues warmed up as the match wore. The Reds’ clear cut opportunity arrived after 20 minutes following a mix-up between Rollers defender, Masego Montsho and her goalkeeper Refilwe Buile, and Masego Koboto almost punished the slackness, seeing her effort go wide.

Some minutes later, Popa also had a chance when Lebogang Setereke combined well with Refilwe Tholakele, but their efforts flashed away. Despite decent chances, the teams went into the break deadlocked.

Early in the second half, both sides made changes with Popa looking dangerous on the break but failing to make the right decisions.

Refilwe Tholakele slid a brilliant pass to Kesegotse Mochawe in the 76th minute, and the striker did not make a mistake.

GU fought gallantly but Rollers stood firm to claim the trophy.

Popa coach, Kagiso Kgosimang said it was a difficult game with GU congesting the midfield. Kgosimang said the plan was to play the ball wide and that worked for them.

GU’s Paul Mizi said they were a bit rusty, but had two weeks of training and it was never going to be easy for his side.
