Former Zebras striker, Moemedi ‘Jomo’ Moatlhaping once again inspired the Old Naledi-based side when he opened the scoring with a free kick in the first half.

Thoto Ntsie then headed into his own net trying to defend a cross. Moatlhaping scored in the 12th minute although the general feeling was that Sharps goalkeeper, should have done better to save the effort. Sharps scored the second in the 28th minute through Ntsie’s headed effort.

Sharps went into halftime carrying a comfortable 2-0 lead. After the break, Lesirane tried to up their game but just could not find the right spaces as the Sharps’ defence stood firm. Sharps on the other hand created chances and saw Lesirane goalkeeper, Boitshwarelo Nzibisi making two incredible saves in a space of 15 minutes. He first denied Sharps striker, Michael Mmelesi, parrying his shot away for a corner.

Moments later he denied the same player, this time punching away his brilliant header. The home team tried to pull one back but veteran midfielder, Abednico Powell could not find the right balance inside the box and shot wide. Speaking to the journalists after the game, Sharps assistant coach, Mlungisi Kopi said their strategy was to play the balls behind Lesirane’s full backs which worked well for them. “We realised that every time we got the ball, they moved inside so we played the balls behind them,” he said. Sharps take on Black Peril on Wednesday in another tough fixture. The match was postponed a fortnight ago due to a waterlogged pitch. No comment could be obtained from the Lesirane bench.
