Learner appraisal system piloted

The 12 targeted schools comprise of one senior secondary school, three junior schools and eight primary schools.

The ministry says that the psychometric tests are going to be used to identify barriers to academic performance by learners as well as challenges to individual learner’s wellbeing.

BLAS will help identify psychosocial problems in learners and it will be applied to support learners to map their career path as espoused in the Education and Training Strategic Plan (ETSP) multiple pathways.

The ministry further stated that learners with psychosocial concerns often find it difficult to focus on their schoolwork to perform optimally and it is not uncommon for learners to encounter challenges that can lead to poor academic performance.

The pilot exercise, which started this month, is expected to run for 12 months.
