Rollers, Platinum Stars in HeForShe clash

The purpose of the friendly match is to encourage more people to support the HeForShe gender equality campaign, which is targeting 20,000 people to sign-up.

HeForShe campaign champion, Solly Reikeletseng said they are targeting to register 17,000 people during tomorrow’s match, which will see Rollers’ women side play Gaborone United in the first match at 3:30pm.

Reikeletseng said they want people to sign up and commit to gender equality objectives.

“We have 3,000 people who have signed to support gender equality therefore we are looking forward to more people signing in order to achieve our target of 20,000,” Reikeletseng said.

He said in the fight for gender equality men and women are partners therefore they must work together to ensure that the objective is achieved.

“With a view to get the 20,000 people, we had to organise an event that will bring together people. Football is one of the most loved sports in the country that is why we had to organise a friendly match between the two clubs,” Reikeletseng said.

He emphasised that the campaign is not about Rollers but is a national project therefore everyone is encouraged to come and support.

Reikeletseng said all those attending the match will sign and commit to gender equality.  He said some people think gender equality is about men and women being equal, but it is about creating an equal platform for everybody.

IWG marketing and public relations manager, Boitumelo Kenosi said they will educate people about the HeForShe campaign with entertainment lined up before the matches.

Rollers men’s coach, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote welcomed the initiative and said the match would keep his players focused.

Mpote said this is a very important game for them, which they take seriously, with the title race in mind. Platinum Stars are expected to arrive today with a strong side.
