Lobatse police to vacate inhabitable houses

Several police staff houses in Peleng, which are a cause of concern for some officers, need urgent maintenance due to leaking water pipes, dripping roofing, open sockets and uninsulated electricity cables.

Makobo said they are still in talks with Botswana Housing Corporation to temporarily lease houses for the officers who will be relocated during maintenance.

Peleng West councillor, Mathara Kearoma said the houses are in a very bad state and they needed to be attended to as quickly as possible. She said the houses dates back to pre-Independence era but no regular maintenance has been carried out on them.

One of the police officers, who resides in the affected houses and spoke on condition of anonymity, said nothing has been done for a while.

“We have decried over the situation. The houses are in bad state, the taps are leaking, ceilings are falling and some sockets are exposed. The houses are dilapidated and nothing has been done to improve the situation,” he said.
