GU Meeting Fails To Find Solutions

The only resolution that the assembly took was to dissolve the executive committee and hand the club to the elders committee who will run the club until a new committee is elected.
This came after the club chairperson, Boitumelo Nsunge declared to the paltry gathering that did not come close to forming a quorum that the club is in deep financial crisis. A little less than 100 members turned up for the meeting.
Nsunge said the club crisis is compounded by internal strife in the executive committee that upsets efforts to find solutions. That was evident as some of the committee members were absent from the assembly. The president Fedelis Nkomazana, secretary general City Senne and the treasurer Nancy Borakanelo, did not show up. Nsunge said the only excuse that he had is of Nancy Borakanelo who was outside the country.
He told the gathering that the club debts are well over P1 million.
He said amongst others, they owe their former coaches; Dragojlo Stanojlovic over P150, 000, Rodolfo Zapata over P200, 000, players wages of five and a half months, and Bismarc Appiah P39, 000.
He said with the current status the club cannot even afford to buy players and could find themselves relying on students as it was the case in their last league games.
He warned that if the club doesn’t find an immediate redress to the crisis, they would find themselves playing in the lower first division. He said the club has failed to comply with club licensing and they have been given until Tuesday to comply. He said they are also failing to renew contracts of other players because the team cannot afford to pay them. Dirang Moloi was mentioned as one of the players who are out of contract and the team cannot afford them.
Nsunge told the assembly that they couldn’t even afford a coach. “Since our coach deserted us on the eve of the Township Rollers match we have not identified a replacement because we don’t know where we would start the negotiations,” he said.
Club general manager, Olebile Sikwane said they need at least P3 million to stabilise. He concurred that GU debts are well over P1 million. Sikwane said they have identified some players, but they are failing to start negotiations, as the club is broke.
“We have lost a number of key players and it is difficult to replace them. We have identified a number of players that have also shown interest to play for us, but we are failing to start the negotiations because we don’t have money,” he said.
