GCC gets five partners

The partnership agreements according to the city Mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe are  expected to be finalised by June, July and December respectively.

The Mayor called upon the administration wing of the council to expedite the process to ensure that the development of these plots becomes a reality.

“ I am concerned with the slow pace of implementing these much-needed developments,” he said.  The councillor for Tlogatloga ward, Rhoda Sekgororoane said public partnership with GCC could help the council a lot since most of the projects that the council had wanted to do are failing because of lack of funds.

“GCC is failing to do a lot of things because it does not have enough money. Most of the resolutions or ways that it had proposed to Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to make money had been approved.  The council is still waiting for the go-ahead,” Sekgoroane said.

She said this would enable private companies to help where they think it needs improvement in the city.

Specially elected councillor and also the former Mayor, Unami Lesole encouraged her successor to put pressure on council management to ensure that the agreement between council and five private companies are assigned.

“Our chamber is not in a good standard and even the offices for council officials. This on its own could help to create temporary jobs for Batswana. If council could seriously partner with private companies, most of the developments that it needs would be met. This is an improvement part on our council,” Lesole said.

Another councillor for Diphetogo ward, Tshepo Moloko said he is worried by slow pace of their council for ensuring that the agreement between them and the private companies are signed.

On other issues, GCC has developed a corruption prevention committee, which basically deals with sensitisation and prevention of corruption.

“This will improve transparency and openness within the council. The committee will also deal with complaints regarding tendering to check if there are genuine or not. The committee will consists of some councillors and other council management officers,” Thutlwe said.
