Kalahari Secrets products range from soaps to lotions made from donkey milk and some other natural products.

Speaking during the launch on Friday, BIH chief executive officer Allan Boshwaen said they would be instrumental in ensuring that Kalahari Secrets products penetrate other markets beyond the country.

“We are impressed with the talent that we see locally hence the reason the Hub has stepped in and assisted with the product laboratory testing, certification and would also continue to assist market them just like we have done before with other innovators,” he said. Boshwaen said the BIH is concerned with preserving indigenous products hence their collaboration adding that they have managed to secure a stall for the Kalahari Secrets at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA).

The brains behind Kalahari Secrets, Johannes Visagie said his mentor is the one who inspired him to venture into this kind of business after he told him that donkey milk is healthy. “Donkey milk has always been a part of my family’s history from my grandparents to my wife and one day when I was sick back in 2012, my mentor suggested I drink the milk and surprisingly I got healed,” he said.

Visagie told BusinessMonitor that he gets the supply from his donkey farm in Werda where he produces milk. He said the reception has been more than what he expected, noting that his clientele grows everyday.

His dream is to penetrate the international market, highlighting that he has been able to brand his products and get them registered with Companies Intellectual Properties Authority (CIPA).

In addition, Visagie revealed that he has been approached by different companies who want to sell his products and some who want to buy into his company which he says shows that his work is recognised by other organisations.
