The park would finally be brought to life with its first event in 10 years on April 15, 2017.

The event organiser, Mokgethi Ramolelekwane, said the event would be family oriented.  He said parents are welcome to bring their children to celebrate the grand opening of the park.  He said the park would be fully refurbished.

“This event aims to create an afternoon filled with fun, laughter, activities and entertainment.  The picnic themed ‘Fun in The Park’ encourages families to enjoy quality time together.  This is an event where fun meets music, food, fashion and art and therefore we expect attendees to come wearing those beautiful floral dresses, colourful clothing and shorts for both the ladies and gentlemen,” he said.

He encouraged revellers to bring along their sunglasses, cooler boxes, camp chairs and picnic baskets. He explained that there would be many family games such as the egg and sack races and more.

Ramolelekwane added that there would be stalls selling food, beverages, children’s items such as toys and art stalls. He said the art stalls would give local artists a chance to showcase their skills and sell some of their artifacts.

He added that they would have car displays, which will include Mercedes Benz and Jeep.

Some of the famous local celebrities who will grace the event are DJs Ricky Lamar, Khenzo, T-Man, Phouboy, Kops and the local hip hop artist Scar. The line-up will also feature DJs from Serowe including Bieps, Swamps, Franky, Zynne, Keymaker and others.

Meanwhile, Ramolelekwane explained that they have pledged to buy 20 Tlatsa Lebala tickets that they would give away to people in Serowe as a way of supporting Kast’s initiative to promote local music. He added that they would also donate 10% of the profits to either a charity organisation or a needy family in Serowe.

A single ticket is P60, a double ticket is P100, and children get free entry. Gates open midday, however, all children are expected to be sent home by 6pm, before the fun ends at 6am the next day.
