The theme this year ‘Pret-A-Porter’, which means ready to wear, aims to encourage designers to aim high, and penetrate the international market.  One of the event coordinators, Tebo Kobisoso, told Showbiz that due to the large number of designers who have registered, for this year’s FWB, the event would run for two days at different venues.

Kobisoso said local designers should start thinking about supplying big stores across the African continent.

She said the total number of exhibitors would be 20 (local) and four designers from different countries.

“On  April 6, 2017 FWB will be hosted at the National Museum and Monuments from 6pm to 9pm.  On that night there will be exhibitions and poetry.  The following day the show will be at Avani Hotel and Resort from 6pm till late,” she said.

Kobisoso said they decided to host the event at Avani because its new look and design presented FWB with a perfect chance to give their followers an indoor feel.

She said they are hoping that Mr Price Group and Boss Model Managenent will join forces with them this year.

“The fashion industry in Botswana is growing. FWB is trying to create a sense of consistency to allow sustainability.  We are setting our sights on showing the African continent what Botswana has to offer,” she explained.  She said two models who participated in the previous FWB have secured three-year contracts with Boss Models in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa. She also said two other models will take part in the Soweto Fashion Week.

“Designer, Lame Chilume has been picked to participate at Soweto Fashion Week and Uyo Fashion Forward 3 in Lagos, Nigeria in April,” she said. Since its inception in 2015, FWB has empowered a number of youth.

“We believe in giving the youth a chance and mentor them on job skills and also help young designers to register their businesses.  We give them mentorship and guidance on how to become entrepreneurs,” she said.

Motswafere and Miss Gee Kays will perform at the event.  A ticket for VIP costs P500 and a standard ticket is P250 per day.
