Storm brewing: Kunyalala left for Japan on Monday

Kunyalala left for Japan on Monday to join Daiwa for a three month training stint. The expectation was that the player would travel to sign a two year deal. Samuel said the family felt let down by the BSA. He told Mmegi Sport yesterday that his son’s move to Japan was a ‘mess’. He said when the Japanese club expressed interest in Kunyalala, the family gave the BSA the green light to negotiate a move.

“We were disappointed to learn that Kunyalala is only going to be in Japan for three months instead of the initial two years. There were delays that cost my son his place at the Japanese club. The club wanted to sign two foreign players and his place was taken by some players from other countries,” he said.

He said the club agreed to sign Kunyalala only because they like him and have seen his potential.  Samuel said even when the BSA alleged that VISA took longer than it was thought, it was a delaying tactic.

“The delay affected my son a lot and I pray that he gets back to his feet again when he gets there. The situation was made worse by the fact that he did not do well in his Form Five examinations,” the disappointed father said. He said maybe if Kunyalala works hard, the club might extend his stay.

Meanwhile, there was confusion when Glamour Sport said it was mandated to represent the player with permission from the parents and the BSA.

Glamour Sport director, Comfort Ramatebele said BSA should be happy that his company opened doors for the player rather than trying to find faults.

“I am Kunyalala’s agent with permission from his parents and yes the endorsement of BSA.

It would be nonsensical and petty of us to find fault when there is such potential,” he said.

Ramatebele said people should find a way forward because softball has a lot of potential. BSA spokesperson, Kelebogile Seitei said the player has gone for training in Japan. She said initially the player was going to sign a contract, but the team is only allowed two foreign players. She said the player is only going to be allowed to play in friendlies.
