Makgato seeks to empower women

She said this after she retained, unopposed, her position of chairperson of the league  at the weekend.

Speaking to the media following her victory, Makgato thanked fellow democrats for the vote of confidence.

She explained that they will continue implementing their transformation agenda, which targets to empower BDP women politically and economically. 

She explained that amongst resolutions approved by the congress, were to strive to promote women empowerment and participation in politics.

Veronica Lesole was voted vice chairperson, beating Kgalaletso Mokgweetsi who got 163 votes. There were 498 votes cast in the vice chairperson race, and three  were spoilt.  Neo Maruapula clinched the secretary general position, beating Tshenolo Leshoma by 263 to 232 votes.

The position of deputy secretary was taken by Bridgid Mavuma after her competitor, Esther Kanaimba, was not available to accept her nomination.

Orefitlhetse Masire and Pearl Markus were unopposed for the positions of treasure and vice treasurer respectively.

Tiny Dikoko, Lillian Sethula, Pinny Morupisi, Marule Diao, Tlotlang Pillar, Ellen Shoro, Mesia Seponaphe, Kgomotso Seduke, Talitha Monnakgotla and Banyana Segwe were voted as additional members.  The Electoral College for the BDP women’s wing was 524.
