IEC appoints returning officer for Tlokweng by-election

A former unionist, Boitshwarelo is now deputy District Commissioner in Tlokweng.

In pursuance of Section 4 (2) of the Electoral Act, the IEC secretary Keireng Zuze has appointed Boitshwarelo and four assistant returning officers for the purpose of the by-election to be held in the Tlokweng constituency.

According to the Government Gazette dated March 17, 2017, Zuze has also appointed presiding officers and polling officers for the constituency.

The by-election follows the death of former Member of Parliament, Same Bathobakae last year November.

Since her demise, President Ian Khama is yet to issue the writ of the by-election.

The opposition and political analysts have accused Khama and the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for the delay because “their house [BDP] is not yet in order”.
