Dagga suspects await forensic report

Brandt Kopanyang, 27 and Mpho Modukanele, 34, were arrested on September 4, 2016 near Ramatlabama after they allegedly entered Botswana through an ungazetted point.

The duo were subsequently searched and were allegedly found in possession of three wrappings suspected to be dagga.

The prosecutor, Sub Inspector Dumani Chakasala of Ramatlabama police station said investigations were ongoing pending the release of a forensic report on the substance.

“Investigations into this matter are still ongoing, and we are awaiting a forensic report of weight and measures from the police laboratory.

I am yet to receive an update from the investigating officer on the progress of the forensic report,” Chakasala told the Court. The case will mention on April 24.

In another matter, Chief Magistrate Mareledi Dipate set trial to June 2 in a case in which 24-year-old Woodhall 1 resident, Bokamoso Kono faces a charge of defilement involving a 11-year-old girl.

The accused is alleged to have, on October 2, 2016 had sexual intercourse with an underage girl in Lobatse.

The accused person is remanded in custody and the next mention is on April 3.
