The latest investment also brings to 23 the total number of Sefalana Shopper Supermarkets countrywide to date.

The Mahube Mall Shopper became the largest single investment at the mall where the Shopper Supermarket is the anchor tenant and the rest of the shops that have already opened are largely small electronic outlets.

The newest Sefalana investment immediately created jobs for 50 locals, to take the total number of employment created by the three Sefalana investments in the town to 140. Sefalana Cash and Carry managing director, Hans Kampmann promised the good attendance at the opening of the Mahube Mall Shopper that they will be differentiated by a first class shopping experience, as a family value store.

Kampmann further pledged that a high level of service, clean environment, respect for customers, fast and friendly service, and fresh products, will continue to be their distinguishing mark.

Sefalana Group chairman and former Vice President, Ponatshego Kedikilwe hailed the latest investment as a milestone for Sefalana, which he described as a truly Botswana company where various pension funds, as well as the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) have invested.

He challenged residents of Kanye and surrounding areas to see Sefalana as their window of opportunity to supply such perishables as vegetables and fruits.

Kedikilwe revealed that last year alone some P674 million was spent on vegetables, and challenged ambitious entrepreneurs in the area to approach Sefalana with vegetable supply chain ideas.

Kedikilwe said Sefalana has grown tremendously since they bought the former Bechmalt Holdings Limited, which at the time boasted of six wholesalers, a maize mill, and 233 workers.

Forty-two years later, Sefalana boasts of 67 Cash and Carry, and Retail outlets, including 16 in Namibia, a big wholesaler in Lesotho, as well as presence in Zambia.

Kedikilwe hailed Sefalana’s strategic growth over the years, which he described as meticulous and calculated to avoid pitfalls.

He reminded the Kanye audience that Sefalana also trades in motor vehicles through Commercial Motors, which sells brands such as Mann trucks, Tata, Honda, including tractors and more. Kedikilwe also said Sefalana continues to do well in the manufacturing and packaging of baby feeds, Malutu, which is manufactured in Serowe by Foods Botswana, where their miller is also located.

He said last year Sefalana acquired UHT milk plant, Delta Dairies and now continues to package its own milk and will in the near future introduce more products to the already existing range.

He also hailed the company saying it continues to give back to the community as Sefalana gave away 10 tractors and plough combos last year to lucky winners.
