Speaking at the launch, the acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Gaolatlhe Dipholo said it was important for companies and Government structures to have effective whistle-blower and tip-off anonymous hotlines as part of their corporate governance so that employees, customers, suppliers and the general public are motivated to report suspected unethical or unlawful conduct.

He further said whistleblowing and tip-off programmes provide a company with the opportunity to address and remedy conduct or activities that the company needs to investigate or rectify and also bring to light issues and unlawful activities that the company is required to report to regulators.

He said BoFiNet has recognised that fraud, corruption, theft and any other form of maladministration could impede on the realisation of their strategic goals.

“BoFiNet has in place a fraud and corruption policy aiming to regulate the management of all attempts and incidents of fraud, corruption and/or maladministration that have the potential to impact on BoFiNet’s operations.

This goes on to show the commitment to reduction of fraud and corruption,” he said.

Dipholo also said BoFiNet has not only established a policy, but has also put in place measures to encourage reporting of fraud, corruption, maladministration in form of whistle blowing policy which has led to the establishment of the hotline.

He further said Government continues to work tirelessly to ensure that it helps and supports effective efforts to fighting fraud, corruption and maladministration through the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime and other agencies.

“We must be driven by the desire to promote public good on our fight against fraud and corruption.”
