Downpour Intervenes In Sharps, Peril Duel

The match kicked off to high temperatures, but the weather then changed drastically in the middle of the first half. Strong winds followed by heavy rainfall saw the high profile lower division match stopped after 38 minutes.
The match officials together with team captains inspected the pitch after the rain stopped and decided that the match be called off since the pitch was not in a good condition to be played on.
At the time Sharps were leading 1-0 courtesy of Moemedi ‘Jomo’ Moatlhaping’s goal. Moatlhaping scored in the 26th minute through a penalty after Black Peril defender, Goitseone Kusane fouled Letlhogonolo Chenjeta in the box. Moatlhaping stepped up and cooly slotted home to give Sharps the lead. Black Peril had dominated the earlier exchanges and had the better chances. However, Sharps nearly broke Peril hearts in the 15th minute when Langa Mabuli received the ball in the box and beat the goalkeeper with a low shot, but his effort hit the upright.
Three minutes later, Mabuli did well again beating a Sharps defender on the right and set up Moatlhaping who failed to hit the target and headed over the crossbar. However, it started pouring leading to the cancellation of the match.
Sharps assistant coach, Mlungisi Kopi said the cancellation of the game was a draw back for them but added that they will now focus on their next match against Lesirane.
He said they knew Black Peril were not that strong defensively on the sides and tried to capitalise on that. Black Peril coach, Nelson Olebile said they gave Sharps too much room in the midfield, which allowed Moatlhaping to receive too many balls unmarked.
He said had the game not stopped because of rain, they were going to talk about leaving too much opening in the midfield at half time.
