After 2016’s X-MEN APOCALYPSE, Marvel is at it again with yet another mutant flavoured blockbuster. The Wolverine story took yet another twist as the marvel comics released Logan this past weekend and fans of the Marvel supernaturals flocked cinemas with great anticipation and raging taste buds for the extraordinary human abilities. Well this featured film is the 10th installment from the X-men franchise that has grossed well over $4.627 billion according to box office and it is also the third from the Wolverine escapades, which date as far back as 2009 and 2013 from X-Men Origins: The Wolverine and The Wolverine respectively.

Worth noting is the fact that this 2017 Hugh Jackman driven rendition is a retcon edition. The story diverts from the previous two plots and now shapes up in a different context altogether. Well here is a teaser from the film’s concept; “In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces”.

Legacy still remains the focal element of the film, whether there shall be the next generation of superheroes is what drives enthusiasts to cinema to find out. What you have to appreciate from Marvel is their element of consistency. The characters particularly the protagonist/antagonists usually reprise their roles, as it is the case with Logan as a claw powered muscleman Hugh Jackman (Logan) and mind manipulator Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier) demonstrate their deadly effect at the same time introducing the cinematic universe to new acquaintances. Basically the films looks ravishing on paper boosted by big names from hit TV shows like Game of Thrones and crafters of the previous Wolverine film in director James Mangold.

Action superhero films always carry huge weight on their shoulders because of the immense expectation from fiction world enthusiasts, which is no different in Logan. Adrenalin junkies were thrilled by immense violence of the film, which were usually the action and the juicy part of the movie. Logan brought the cinema to a standstill as new blood mutants Dafne Keen mesmerised, putting in a stellar performance much to the delight of fanatics. This little mutant is very influential in this film. For instance she looks very creepy and fuels the mystery of this thriller. The stunts are on point as well, as a little wolverine decimates mercenaries against all odds introducing herself as the heir to the claw enforcement. It is also pretty cool watching one man having the power of the almighty as Charles freezes time to his convenience. That is another plus for me about the film as the plot takes a different dimension but blends in very well to the audience. It had no loopholes for that matter.

Logan is a sci-fi fantasy thriller tailored to entice our imaginations with virtual world fiction entertainment but in contrast to that, the film taps into real social themes like family, protection, crime, survival and child trafficking. It is engaging in the sense that it explores the nasty deeds other people are willing to do such as abusing their children as child soldiers. For instance mutants are being tracked for malicious intent, as it is the case in most previous X-Men editions. Apart from that just like R rated like Deadpool and in some parts of the world like China, the film had to be censored because the anger management issues force him to instantly curse therefore damaging the film’s potential profit margin. Logan has quite a fascinating cinematography unlike X-men films that often have dark cinematography to aid the CGI of those films but this Marvel franchise is rather reminiscent of a whole lot of legendary films. It enthuses with a plot like that of the Universal Soldier, where enthusiasts are drugged with fun from the creation of genetic soldiers aka mutants. It also encapsulates elements of Twilight and Harry Porter, as there are mutants who are sensitive to sunlight like vampires as well as resembling the looks of the great Harry Porter villain lord Voldemort. So props to the cinematographers for creating such a tasty creepy supernatural world.

Reception

According to box office the movie premiered a weekend ago and immediately pocketed a whooping $88 million in a space of a weekend. The movie ascended to the top of box office before being toppled by Kong to slip to second this week. It took only 3 weeks for this 2017 blockbuster to smash its 2013 predecessor’s $418 million revenue reception as LOGAN has already grossed an amazing $437 still counting in just two weeks.
