The Run21 Trail Run marathon will include 21.1km, 10km and 5km on April 9.

The Lady Khama Charitable Trust secretary, Marcus Ter Haar said the marathon is targeting all runners, volunteers, sport and fitness enthusiasts, runners in training sports/ hiking/endurance/ athletics clubs and sports retailers therefore they are expecting more participants.

He said the main idea for this trail run is to fulfil their current projects that improve the life of vulnerable women and children.

“With our mission to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children in Botswana, there will be no prize money for the runners. There will be medals for first, second and third runners for both male and female in junior rush, junior open, master and veteran,” Ter Haar said. He added that the 2,000 runners in any category that cross the finishing line will get a Sefalana Goodie Bag and event finisher medal.

Ter Haar said the Run21 is a trail run which means the runners will be running on the road and off road with the route split into three sections that is the 5km fun run/walk, 10km and 21km.

He said all three routes will run along various main roads and greenways across Gaborone and the start and finishing line will be the National Stadium and the route has been modified accordingly. Therefore, they plead with both runners and drivers to exercise caution at all times.

Meanwhile, the core beneficiaries of this year’s annual fundraising events are Childline, Bana Ba Metsi, SOS Children’s Villages, Little Friends Day Care Centre and ECD Teacher Training Pogramme.

The registration of Run21 trail is still on for 21.1km. Registration fee is P200 for the 21.1km race; P150 for the 10km race and P50 for the 5km race.
