Topher Kash's montre moi explodes into mainstream music

The title montre moi is French phrase, which translates to show me. For those who like a laid back atmosphere, the song is that kind of poignant, soulful jazz-infused track you only thought is done by the likes of Monique Bingham only. The producer managed to make that infectious yet well orchestrated soul filled instrumental which complements Topher Kash’s melodious voice.

For an avid listener of music, especially house deep soul house music, montre moi despite its French lyrics creates a huge leap in the right direction for the genre in Botswana. Although he can remind someone of many established singers out there, the musician whose name is Christopher Nkashama Topher Kash managed to edge out his signature sound in this song. One thing about the song is that it has both that compelling ‘you have to go and groove tonight’ feeling on a Friday evening and at the same time it can be that classic Monday morning jam which sets tone for a productive day.

In an interview with Arts & Culture, Topher Kash said he wrote the song two months ago as freestyle at first. “I wrote the lyrics afterwards and used French because it is an international language,” he said.

He said it is not a typical local house song but it has a vibe and depth that people want to hear.  He explained that he grew up in a musical family. “I leant to sing in Church but it was only two years ago when I decided to go back to singing.

I wasn’t confident, I eased my way back into it,” he said. The vocalist, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, said he has finally found his sound with deep soul house. He said the songs he had done in the past include R&B and Afro Beats sounds. “Deep House is where I am heading and I believe there is a solid market because I can even penetrate Europe market.”
