Nokware Skincare introduces eco-friendly bamboo packaging

The organic skincare brand founded by two young women Thato Tau from Botswana and Tutuwa Ahwoi from Ghana and is carving its place as an inclusive Pan African beauty brand with the warm slogan From Earth, To You.

The cosmetic industry accounts for an estimated 2.7 billion plastic bottles that end up in landfills and on our shores every year.

It is predicted that the ocean will contain more plastics than fish by 2050 if we do not change our consumptive behaviours regarding plastic. This is why as Nokware Skincare, we have chosen to place environmental responsibility at the forefront of our brand through the use of sustainable, repurposed packaging,' explained Tau in a press release.

Their new bamboo packaging is a fitting addition to the brand's unique packaging which makes use of repurposed gourd plants (from which their calabash packaging is derived), repurposed jute sacks from cocoa bean farmers and raffia from palm trees.

'We wanted to raise awareness that plastic is not the only option available for packaging and that all around us nature has provided us with materials that when repurposed, can make for beautiful, natural packaging,' added Tau. Nokware recently participated in the New Venture Competition for African Start-Ups at Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, where 10 African start-ups were invited to pitch their businesses before a panel of judges and esteemed guests at the event.

They were awarded the prize for the company that most impacts their community by Sundial Brands, owners of international beauty brand, Shea Moisture.
