Batalaote to host cultural festival

Diloro cultural festival is the celebration of Setalaote culture through song, dance, games, food, cuisine, attire, costumes, language and custom.
Festival organiser Chilly Segona told Arts & Culture that the main aim of the event is to revive the Batalaote culture. “The Batalaote tribe has not been known for so many years because they were under the Bangwato tribe hence they always refer to themselves as Bangwato,” he said. Segona explained that Batalaote tribe is from Sefhophe, Mmadinare and Kgaodi, with a few traces found in Serowe, Palapye and Shoshong. He stated that the reason the festival is referred to as Diloro is because this is the name used mostly among the tribe.
“It is common that most of the activities start with sponsored walks, but we have decided to be different and start with Letsema, where we will be cleaning the village of Sefhophe. This is so because we want to bring back the spirit of oneness amongst the tribe,” he said.
As regards the line up Segona explained that the festival would be divided into two. The first one will be held at Sefhophe grounds where they will be activities like games, food, and arts and crafts. The second part of the event will be held at Masimo a ntswaneng at Mma George’s farm. Amongst those expected to perform are Culture Spears, Dr Vom, Cary More and Rra Monyaku.
Segona stated that the event is being sponsored by Umbrella Holdings who will provide chairs and tents, with Sefhophe ka monate organization focusing on the marketing part of the event. He said the Area Member of Parliament Kefentse Mzwinila, Dikgosi and councillors would be providing food for the event. He said a camping site will be provided for those who will be attending the event.
